Nezhukumatathil takes us in to her childhood world and shows us life through the eyes of that little girl. Each story is a carefully crafted gem in which the personal and the natural history are woven together, to create a loving portrait of her family. Nezhukumatathil has written a timely story about love, identity and belonging. Within two pages, nature writing feels different and fresh and new. This book is like the moment when you go to a familiar outside place and suddenly you see some amazing thing you had never expected. I thought this was going to be another earnest tome of nature writing. But within a few lines of the first essay in this book it is clear that Aimee Nezhukumatathil is giving us more than that, much more. This charmingly illustrated collection of nature essays is more than it might appear to be at first glance.

The council itself and controversy are not strange bedfellows. The past five years has been one of royal rumblings, though the crisis is more dated. It is more apposite to make such efforts at a time when government has already set the ball rolling for the review of our traditional council and chieftaincy laws. I wish to put up a caveat in advance that I am not out to belittle or 'piss' on history and our revered traditional institutions as some cynics may want to allege, I am only out to reinforce the ongoing clamour for historical exigencies or realities, logic, good conscience, equity and justice in our royal system. T is agreed that matters pertaining to traditional rulers and the troubled Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs are fundamentally crucial and sensitive. Though less than a meter away, his slurred voice paid no regard to volume as he spread out his arms and grinned. He bounded across the floor and pulled out the seat opposite from mine. With a strained smile I raised my hand in greeting. To reinforce his point, he raised an imaginary tankard, then scanned the heads of our few customers. His voice reached the dusty rafters above and settled over the tavern like a promise-a vow that today would be the start of something wonderful. As if he’d waltzed into a fancy establishment among fine nobles instead of a seaside tavern with the smell of fish and saltwater filling the stale morning air.Īs if he could read my thoughts, Arn threw his head back and bellowed, It’s a great day, indeed. He paused to shake a few hands and tip his head in greeting. Whosever death this was, Arn danced in the face of it. Further news of death was not welcome here. He practically sang as he declared loudly enough for the room to hear, He’s dead! Finally.įrom my seat in the back, I cursed. Golden waves for the ocean he loved so dearly. The creaky door of the Banished Gentlemen tavern swung wide as a young man with a cutlass strapped to his side sauntered in with his fists raised in triumph. 6/27/2023 0 Comments The lynburn legacy seriesRees Brennan once again delivers a refreshing blend of witty humor and chilling moments in this decidedly modern take on Gothic mysteries. Peter Harvey calls this "trans- polytheism". Thus, while Buddhism includes multiple "gods", its main focus is not on them. In Buddhism, the devas are also trapped in the cycle of rebirth and are not necessarily virtuous. Buddhism teaches that none of these gods is a creator or an eternal being, though they can live very long lives. īuddhist teachings state that there are divine beings called devas (sometimes translated as 'gods') and other Buddhist deities, heavens, and rebirths in its doctrine of saṃsāra, or cyclical rebirth. As such, it has often been described as either (non- materialistic) atheism or as nontheism, though these descriptions have been challenged by other scholars, since some forms of Buddhism do posit different kinds of transcendent, unborn, and unconditioned ultimate realities (e.g., Buddha-nature). Generally speaking, Buddhism is a religion that does not include the belief in a monotheistic creator deity. Milton Academy, Harvard University, University of Virginia School of Law Your thinking process will tend to go in circles, constantly thinking and worrying about the tasks that you must not forget. Without a system for recording ideas, your mind wastes a lot of energy by neurotically keeping those ideas fresh in your memory - you just can't stop thinking about them. The first step to GTD is collecting all of the information that is bouncing around in your head by getting it out of your mind. This recaptured mental energy can be put towards being more productive and efficient. The main principle of GTD is that recording your tasks in a reliable way - using a system that you trust - will free your mind from trying to remember and prioritize stuff. This method was developed by David Allen in his book, Getting Things Done. Getting Things Done (GTD) is a method for organizing tasks so that you can focus your entire energy and creativity on completing those tasks in a stress free manner. 6/26/2023 0 Comments Gobi dion leonardThis little dog taught Dion some lessons about running that made his journey more about just trying to finish first. It’s during this race that he meets a durable, resilient, and tiny dog that follows him for a whole 77-miles of the race. Dion decides that he wants to tackled a 155-mile race through the Gobi desert in China. After successfully beating his poor friend (honestly, that would piss me off so much) he decided to keep running and set his sights on some of the most competitive and challenging marathons and ultras in the world. It all started after he made a bet with his friend that he would beat him in a half marathon, despite having never done one or trained for one. He doesn’t run because he likes it but because he wants to challenge himself and be competitive.
